Manpower Ministry opens training for 50,000 laid-off workers

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry opened a vocational training program for 50,000 workers affected by layoffs.
Manpower Minister Yassierli said in a statement here on Thursday that the program aims to improve workers' competence so they are better prepared to return to the job market or develop their own businesses.
"This program is a form of the state's presence in accompanying workers affected by layoffs to become productive again," Yassierli said.
He explained that the program is prioritized for workers on fixed-term employment agreements (PKWT) or permanent employment agreements (PKWTT) who were laid off from January 2024 to 2026 and are not receiving Job Loss Guarantee (JKP) benefits from the Employment Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan).
Training is available in various fields according to needs and program availability, including digital marketing, sewing and fashion, and food and beverage.
Digital marketing training covers marketing basics and social media content creation. Sewing and fashion covers sewing skills, sequin attaching, and pattern making.
Food and beverage covers bread and cake making, espresso preparation, and appetizer making. Other options include window film installation, air conditioner maintenance, and hydroponic installation.
The training runs for five days with a total of 40 lesson hours at 21 Ministry vocational training centers, consisting of Vocational and Productivity Training Main Centers (BBPVP) and Vocational and Productivity Training Centers (BPVP) across Indonesia.
Participants receive daily allowances, meals, transport cost reimbursement, uniforms, and protection through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
They also receive a training certificate and a skill certificate from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).
Prospective participants need to prepare one proof-of-layoff document, namely a layoff decision letter or notice, a contract termination letter, a joint agreement on ending employment, or a work experience certificate.
"We invite workers affected by layoffs to make the best use of this program. Improving competence is one important step to widen opportunities to return to work or develop their own businesses," the minister said.
