Man missing for 3 days found dead on Pangasinan coast

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — A 23-year-old man from Valenzuela City who was reported missing after being carried by strong sea currents in Masinloc, Zambales, was found dead in waters off Infanta town in Pangasinan on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Danillo Conejos, a resident of Barangay Malinta, was swimming in the waters off Sitio Duhok in Barangay Bani on Aug. 23 when he was dragged down.

The Coast Guard Sub-Station Masinloc resumed search and rescue operations at around 6 a.m. on Aug. 26, conducting intensified coastal patrols along the incident area and adjacent shoreline. The search initially yielded negative results.

Responders also proceeded to nearby barangays and sought information from fishermen who frequently traversed the area, asking them to report any possible sighting of Conejos.

At around 2:30 p.m., the team received information from the Coast Guard Sub-Station Sta. Cruz about a body that was sighted in the water off Barangay Cato in Infanta, about five nautical miles from the shoreline. The remains reportedly matched Conejos’ description.

Coast Guard personnel, along with Conejos’ immediate family members and Masinloc police officers, proceeded to Infanta and positively identified Conejos at around 5:10 p.m.

His remains were formally turned over to his family with the assistance of a funeral service provider for transport and proper disposition, the PCG said./coa
