Super Eagles: Awoniyi’s Performance Puts Chelle Under Pressure

Coventry City forward Taiwo Awoniyi has played himself into a good position to start for the Super Eagles in tomorrow’s AFCON 2027 qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Awoniyi was a second substitute against Madagascar on Friday, his return to the team after almost three years in the international wilderness and he immediately changed the tide of the game in Nigeria’s favour.

He ran the channels brilliantly, tracked back, won duels and also linked up play with ease, and it has placed head coach Eric Chelle under pressure to start him in tomorrow’s game.

Chelle is expected to ring changes for the game, and one of it could be the 29 year old playing from the start in the top of the table clash, with both teams starting the campaign on a winning note.

A clear picture will be known after today’s final training session in Bissau, where all of the invited players are expected to take part.
