Bafana Bafana winger Mokwana to African giants Waydad?

According to Unplayable, Wydad are keen to sign the 27-year-old Mokwana. He is a free agent after following his exit from Tunisian giants Espérance last week.

The outlet says he also has options in Saudi Arabia and Libya, while a return to South Africa has not been ruled out.

ELIAS MOKWANA ATTRACTS WYDAD INTEREST

Born in KwaMhlanga in 1999, Mokwana made his name in the National First Division with Platinum City Rovers before earning a move to Sekhukhune United in 2022.

His pace and versatility quickly made him an important player for Sekhukhune, while his performances also helped him establish himself in the Bafana Bafana setup.

Mokwana’s rise continued in 2024 when he secured a move to Espérance, one of Africa’s most successful clubs. He later spent time on loan at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hazem before becoming a free agent following his contractual separation from the Tunisian club.

Now, Wydad have emerged as a potential destination.

WYDAD CASABLANCA EYE SOUTH AFRICAN

Wydad Casablanca are one of Africa’s most decorated clubs, with multiple CAF Champions League titles and a huge following in Morocco.

The Moroccan giants also have a strong recent connection to South African football through coach Rulani Mokwena, who was appointed in July 2024 after his success with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula also wore the famous red jersey of Wydad.

Mokwena famously defeated Wydad with Sundowns in the African Football League final before later taking charge of the Moroccan club. His presence has helped strengthen the link between Wydad and South African football.

For Mokwana, a move to Wydad would provide another opportunity to compete at the highest level of African club football. With interest also reportedly coming from Saudi Arabia and Libya, the Bafana winger has several options as he considers his next move.
