MPAJ demolishes illegal structure used as gathering spot for foreigners

KUALA LUMPUR: Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has demolished an illegal structure used to collect recyclable items and as a gathering spot for foreigners in Pandan Mewah here.

The action was taken during an integrated operation following public complaints, including a video of an illegal structure built at Padang Jalan Mewah 4 in Pandan Mewah.

"Several bird cages were also removed, and the surrounding area was cleaned to ensure the safety and peace of the local community," it said in a Facebook post.

Checks found that the illegal structure had been used to collect recyclable items, keep birds and serve as a gathering spot for foreigners.

Following the complaints, the structure was demolished and all construction debris cleared.

"The council takes seriously any illegal structures built on public land, especially those that cause discomfort or disrupt the peace of the community.

"The demolition and cleanup were carried out with KDEB Waste Management, involving the removal of the structure, overgrown vegetation and recyclable items from the open space.

"The operation also involved two MPAJ excavators and six roll-on-roll-off bins provided by KDEB to assist with the demolition and cleanup," it said.

In addition, MPAJ's Enforcement Department removed 18 bird cages and 20 bird traps from a location next to the cleared area.

To prevent a recurrence, MPAJ will monitor the area and implement measures to prevent irresponsible parties from misusing the open space.
