Sally Wainwright's excellent BBC drama Riot Women gets season 2 update from star Amelia Bullmore

Riot Women star Amelia Bullmore has given an exciting update on season two of the BBC drama. Written by Sally Wainwright, the series was a big hit with fans and critics when it aired last year.

Speaking to Hello! magazine, Bullmore, who plays the band's guitarist Yvonne, was asked if she'd kept up the instrument since filming season one.

"I have continued practising the guitar – number one because I loved it, number two because having learned something from scratch it seemed a sinful waste to drop it, and number three because I hoped we would need it again!" Bullmore said.

When asked about season two, the actor added: "I fear I can't say anything at all! We don't start until February, so in the autumn we'll start to get the songs through and get our homework for the music, and then we'll be back in Hebden."

Riot Women was renewed for a second season last year, not long after its first season aired.

Alongside Bullmore, the series also stars Joanna Scanlan (Slow Horses), Rosalie Craig (Moonflower Murders), Lorraine Ashbourne (Sherwood), and Tamsin Greig (Friday Night Dinner).

The BBC teased season two will explore "what comes next for the Riot Women following the dramatic turn of events in series one's final episode".

When it was announced that Riot Women would indeed be back, creator Wainwright said: "Oh, this is where the fun really starts! We've all been so deeply moved by the huge, overwhelming, joyous, emotional response to series one, and now we're able to take the Riot Women extravaganza onto the next level! We hope you'll all join us on the series two rollercoaster!"

Riot Women aired on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer. Season 2 is on the way but does not yet have a release date.
