Toronto: Irene Dionisio’s ‘IDDA’ Lands at FilmClub Distribuzione for Italy (Exclusive)

FilmClub Distribuzione has acquired Irene Dionisio’s IDDA Mount Etna drama for Italy after a world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival as part of the Platform program.

The deal with Rai Cinema International Distribution is for Dionisio’s second narrative feature that stars Tecla Insolia and Romana Maggiora Vergano and is being shopped at TIFF: The Market in Toronto. IDDA follows childhood friends Adele and Sofia, now in their thirties, whose lifelong bond is challenged during a journey through the volcanic landscapes of Sicily’s Mount Etna.

Andrea Curti, CEO and head of acquisitions at FilmClub Distribuzione, a Minerva Pictures’ company, in a statement on Sunday said: “We’re extremely proud to have the chance to bring one of the most awaited titles of the season to the Italian audience. IDDA is first and foremost an amazing journey with wonderful people: Irene Dionisio, Giovanni Pompili and the whole production team, and the amazing cast with three of the most talented voices of our contemporary cinema.”

Dionisio made documentaries before moving into narrative filmmaking with Pawn Street, which debuted at Venice in 2017. She co-wrote IDDA with Marco Borromei (Small Body).

I hope IDDA can reach viewers in Italy and internationally, opening a space for dialogue about friendship, change, belonging and the difficult transitions we all experience. The distribution deal was negotiated by Fulvio Firrito for Rai Cinema International Distribution, which is handling international sales on the film, and Andrea Curti for FilmClub Distribuzione. IDDA is produced by Giovanni Pompili, Isabella Weber, Filippo Montalto, Francesco Montalto, Francesco Grisi, Giorgia Priolo and Antonio Miyakawa.
