Lionel Richie Postpones Tour Dates After Undergoing Heart Procedure

Lionel Richie is recovering after being treated for a heart issue.

The singer “underwent a common procedure for atrial fibrillation (AFib),” his rep said. “The doctor said everything went perfectly.”

The rep adds, “Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon.”

The next three performances on his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire — Sept. 26 in San Francisco, Sept. 30 in Chicago and Oct. 2 in Columbus, Ohio — have been postponed.

Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heartbeat that can lead to dizziness or lightheadness, shortness of breath and fatigue.

Richie previously checked himself into a hospital in late August following a concert in St. Louis. And on the opening night of his tour, in St. Paul, Minnesota in June, Richie was taken to the hospital and had to postpone his next two concerts after he felt dizzy during “Dancing on the Ceiling” and walked offstage.

He returned to perform “Three Times a Lady” before the concert came to an abrupt end.

Returning to stage after the opening night incident, on June 30, he joked about his recent health issues.

“You have no idea what I have been through in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends tell me their advice on what I should be doing,” he said onstage, according to TribLive.

In July he thanked his fans for their support.

“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.”

His next shows are part of a Las Vegas residency at Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas from Oct. 14-Nov. 13.
