Indonesian police are investigating the death of Perth grandfather Paul Dougan after he was allegedly assaulted at a bar in Bali.
In an online post, Mr Dougan's family alleged he was "brutally assaulted by a group of Australians who are yet to be identified".
"They beat and kicked him multiple times, putting him in a life-threatening condition," the family said, adding that he had to undergo three major surgeries.
Bali regional police pronounced Mr Dougan dead on Thursday afternoon.
He was allegedly attacked more than two weeks ago at the One Tribe One Life Lounge and Cafe in the popular tourist area of Kuta, and taken to hospital several days later.
Mr Dougan's son, Liam, paid tribute to his father in a social media post, saying he was "shattered, heartbroken and confused".
"I will love and remember you for the rest of my life, and I will continue to make you proud," he said.
In another post, Liam Dougan said he and the family were in Bali.
As of Thursday evening, Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade did not have a consular role in assisting the family.
The Gosnells Football Club also offered their condolences to the family, who live in Perth's south-east.
"Paul was a much-loved father, grandfather and member of the wider Gosnells community, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him," it said in a statement.
The ABC has chosen not to publish photos of Mr Dougan pending permission from his family.
