Jailer 2, starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, was released in theaters on October 15, 2026. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the movie is the second installment in the franchise, serving as a sequel to the first film.

If you have watched the movie in theaters, here’s a quick ending explainer for you.

Jailer 2 Ending Explained

Jailer 2 is set three months after the events of the first film. Following Varman’s demise, the idol trade group is on the lookout for the man responsible for his demise while also trying to retrieve the three massive containers of idols that Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) had kept hidden from everyone.

As Dileepan, a loyal follower of the group, sets out to trace the person responsible, he finds himself trapped in a larger plan devised by the former warden himself. During their conversation, it is revealed that Bodhi Kalpak (SJ Suryah) and the rest of his family are at the top of the group.

Forced to side with Muthuvel, Dileepan sets out to end Bodhi’s life. However, the latter is a step ahead and finishes Dileepan off. As Bodhi sets out to warn Muthuvel, he threatens the former jailer’s ally, Narasimha (Shiva Rajkumar), by wounding him and kidnapping his wife and son.

In order to rescue them, Muthuvel strikes a deal and decides to return the three containers of idols he had kept from Varman, which originally belonged to the Kalpak family. However, outsmarting them once again, Muthuvel rises to the top of the equation, creating a ruckus and igniting a fire of revenge within the Kalpak family.

Instead of attacking him directly, Bodhi decides to drive a wedge between Muthuvel and his family by revealing to them that the former officer was responsible for his own son’s demise. Caught between protecting his family and facing the consequences of his actions, Muthuvel’s wife, Vijaya, calls the cops and gets him arrested.

In a desperate moment, Muthuvel Pandian contacts one of his allies, Roddy (Hrithik Roshan). With his help, the former officer reaches the Kalpak family’s home, where Muthuvel’s family is being held.

During their final showdown, Bodhi’s sister, Kaantha Kalpak (Vidya Balan), reveals to Muthuvel’s family how he had actually ended his son’s life to protect them. As all hope seems lost, Roddy returns and infiltrates the Kalpak home, rescuing Muthuvel’s family.

Meanwhile, the family patriarch, Chakri Kalpak (Mithun Chakraborty), decides to sacrifice himself in order to defeat Muthuvel. The former jailer escapes by jumping out of a window, while Kaantha is injured and seemingly passes away.

As Bodhi realizes there is nothing left to do but escape, he boards his private jet. However, just as the plane is about to take off from the runway, Tiger Muthuvel Pandian stands in its way. Mathew (Mohanlal) then arrives in his sports car and crashes into the plane’s wings moments before it can take off.

After Bodhi is reduced to dust, Muthuvel reunites with his family and surrenders for taking his son’s life. However, just moments before he is taken away, the man receives a call from Kaantha, who is revealed to have survived. An officer (Vijay Sethupathi) is also revealed to be helping her, ending the film on a cliffhanger and setting the stage for Jailer 3.
