Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday said that she has no plan to step down from her post amid the ongoing impeachment trial and allegations against her.
“I will not resign, will never resign from the Office of the Vice President,” she told reporters.
The impeachment trial is already on its 39th day with the prosecution presenting its case. The defense panel will start presenting its evidence and witnesses starting November 9.
The Senate, acting as the impeachment court, is currently discussing the alleged unexplained wealth of Duterte as well as of his husband, Manases Carpio.
National Bureau of Investigation director Melvin Matibag on Monday held a press conference, wherein he said the bureau is investigating properties linked to Duterte and her family amid allegations of cash deliveries by a dismissed police officer.
Duterte said that she is discussing with her legal team the allegations against her.
“Pinag-uusapan namin ng mga abogado na napakarami naman ng mga legal recourses na ginagawa ni (Ramil) Madriaga, ni (Rodulfo) Gracioso, ni (NBI director Melvin) Matibag, ni (Antonio) Trillanes, kaso we do not expect fairness from the government in general. Pinag-uusapan lang, pero wala naman kaming hakbang.
(My lawyers and I are discussing the fact that Madriaga, Gracioso, Matibag, and Trillanes are pursuing so many legal recourses, but we do not expect fairness from the government in general. We're just discussing it, but we haven't taken any action yet.)
“Ang ginagawa lang namin sa ngayon ay sinasagot na hindi ito totoo, at bakit ginagamit ninyo ang pera ng gobyerno sa paninira?” she added.
(What we are doing right now is simply answering that these allegations are not true, and asking why you are using government funds for smear campaigns?)
When asked for her comment about Matibag’s presser, Duterte said: “'Yung sa press conference niya, ang masasabi ko lang ay hindi makatotohanan ang kanyang sinasabi.”
(Regarding his press conference, all I can say is that what he is saying is untrue.)
Amid the allegations thrown at her, the Vice President said that vote rigging is possible during the 2028 national elections.
“Kung matutuloy man ang 2028 national elections, expect ninyo na 'yung dayaan diyan at expect ninyo na tutuloy-tuloy 'yung tinatawag nilang black propaganda,” said Duterte.
(If the 2028 national elections do push through, expect election fraud there and expect that what they call black propaganda will continue.) —AOL, GMA News
