Daily Snow Report: damaging winds at sea as most provinces stay warm and partly cloudy

Translate

Wednesday, 26 August’s Daily Snow Report shows most provinces settling into warm, partly cloudy conditions, though SAWS has issued a yellow level 2 warning for damaging winds at sea, expected between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas from the morning, spreading to Plettenberg Bay by the afternoon.

Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm weather, with a “high” UVB sunburn index in effect, meaning precautions against prolonged sun exposure are worth taking.

REMEMBER | Here’s what your weather looked like on Tuesday

According to SAWS, warm conditions dominate most of the interior

Mpumalanga sees cloudy conditions with isolated showers and rain in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, with morning fog patches over the southern Highveld.

Limpopo stays cloudy in the south-east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm.

North West enjoys fine, warm weather, turning partly cloudy by the afternoon.

Free State sees a cloudy start with morning fog in the east, otherwise fine and warm, becoming partly cloudy in the extreme north-west from the afternoon.

Northern Cape starts cloudy with morning fog patches over the extreme western parts, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, staying fine in the extreme east.

Where fog, cloud, and rain come in along the coast

Western Cape sees morning mist over the central and north-eastern interior, otherwise fine to partly cloudy and cool to warm, turning hot over the West Coast District, with cloud along the south coast in the morning. The province also carries a “high” UVB sunburn index.

Eastern Cape‘s western half stays partly cloudy in the north, otherwise cloudy and cool to cold with light rain along the coast and adjacent interior.

The eastern half sees a cloudy, cool to cold day with light rain in places along the coast, becoming partly cloudy in the north by the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal starts with morning fog in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy to cloudy and cool, but warm in the extreme northeast, with isolated showers and rain expected.

Why the coastal wind warning matters more than the mild forecast suggests

It’s easy to read “warm and partly cloudy” and assume a calm day everywhere, but that yellow level 2 warning means anyone at sea or navigating along the Western Cape coast between Table Bay and Plettenberg Bay needs to take it seriously today.

It’s crazy how a mostly mild forecast can still carry a real hazard tucked into it, hey.

Are you along the coast today? How are the winds looking where you are?
