Lord of the Rings star announced for surprising new project

Lord of the Rings star Lee Pace has landed a role in a surprising new project. The actor will be lending his voice to the upcoming DC animation Dynamic Duo, directed by Arthur Mintz.

As per the IMDB synopsis, the movie "explores the early friendship between Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, the Robins, as they navigate their dreams and differing visions for the future, leading to the emergence of a new Dynamic Duo amidst challenges to their bond."

According to Deadline, Mason Thames and Logan Kim will star as Dick and Jason, while Pace and Steve Buscemi will play Red Hood One and Red Hood Two, respectively.

Dynamic Duo was originally scheduled to be released in June 2028 but has now been pushed back to 22 September that year.

Reports suggest Warner Bros is hoping to market the movie as a back-to-school feature for young children, teens and also college students.

Pace is best known for playing Thranduil the Elvenking in The Hobbit trilogy from 2012-2014. He will be reprising his role in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is set to be released next year.

Director Andy Serkis will also star as Gollum and Sméagol, opposite Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Kate Winslet as Marigol, Leo Woodall as Halvard, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins and Anya Taylor-Joy as Seren.

The prequel started filming in July and is set during The Fellowship of the Ring, after Gandalf learns of The One Ring and sends Strider out to locate its former owner. Jamie Dornan joins the cast as Strider, taking over from Viggo Mortensen, who played the role in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy.

"I've got to say, Jamie's doing extremely well. He's fantastic," Serkis previously told Variety. "We've literally just completed a week. We're finally up and running, so it's great. It's really exciting."

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to release on 17 December, 2027.
