Egypt has indefinitely suspended the transit of trucks bound for Sudan via the Qustul land port after two Egyptian drivers were killed and a third was injured in a shooting at a market in southern Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, RT Arabic reported.

The management of Egypt’s Qustul Land Port, under the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports of the Ministry of Transport, issued directives to halt all trucks heading toward the port and prevent them from crossing on ferries to the Sudanese side until new instructions are issued, “against the backdrop of security developments in Sudan’s Northern State.”

The decision made an exception for passenger traffic, as buses, private cars, and microbuses—along with individual travelers—continue to be allowed to cross without being affected by the suspension of truck traffic.

An earlier decision by the Internal and International Land Transport Regulatory Authority had prohibited Egyptian trucks from entering conflict zones in Sudan, restricting commercial transport movements strictly to Wadi Halfa, Argeen, and the city of Dongola in Sudan as part of measures aimed at protecting drivers from security risks.

The authority emphasized the necessity for truck drivers to adhere to instructions regulating transport movement inside Sudan, exercise the utmost caution and vigilance, and refrain from crossing beyond designated areas under any circumstances.

These instructions are based on directives issued by the Ministry of Transport on May 11, 2025, which mandated avoiding conflict zones and limiting cargo offloading to safe areas within Sudan’s Northern State.

The suspension of border crossings comes at a time when overland transport between Egypt and Sudan faces heightened security risks associated with the armed conflict, following an incident where two Egyptian drivers were killed and a third was injured during a shooting at a market south of Khartoum.
