Coronation Street warns of dark Christmas story for Abi Webster

Coronation Street producer Kate Brooks has revealed that Abi Webster will go off the rails again this Christmas.

Abi has overcome her addictions and is currently maintaining her sobriety, but that could change as we head towards the festive season.

Brooks shared the news at a Coronation Street press event, hinting that Abi's friendship group could prove to be a major influence in bringing her back from the brink.

"We're seeing a bit of the old Abi cropping up," Brooks warned. "The old Abi does re-emerge over the Christmas period.

"With the different place that she's in now, it's seeing whether her family and friends are able to make sure that she gets on the right track.

"It's going to be a bit of a bumpy ride. There are a few curveballs."

Abi is a key part of Debbie's Angels – the closest friends of Debbie Webster, who are supporting the hotel boss following her dementia diagnosis.

With Corrie producers keen to keep Debbie's Angels at centre stage in the coming months, could Abi also get some much-needed support from the gang?

Brooks added: "Abi's friendship with Debbie as well is quite painful for her. There's big stuff coming up in the spring, which really puts them at the heart of it."

Abi is currently single after sacrificing her marriage to Kevin to pursue an ill-fated affair with his nephew Carl.

Sally Carman-Duttine, who plays Abi, recently told us that she's desperate to see her character back with Kevin.

Asked why the pair looked so cosy in a recent scene, the star replied: "They're not together! But there was a moment in that scene where I was like: 'I'm going to put my arm around Mike Le Vell, to sort of maybe give the writers some incentive to bring them back together'.

"I'm doing my best! Whether it's going to work or not, I don't know. But no, we're not back together."
