‘Munna Bhai 3’: Farhad Samji begins writing Rajkumar Hirani's next film - Reports

The much-awaited third instalment of the 'Munna Bhai' franchise is reportedly moving forward, with writer Farhad Samji working on its screenplay. According to the reports, Samji is currently writing 'Munna Bhai 3', which will be directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The development brings the writer and filmmaker together again for a franchise that has been part of their professional association since its beginning in 2003.Interestingly, Samji's connection with the original film began through its music. He was responsible for writing the opening refrain of the popular song 'M Bole Toh'. What started as a late-night assignment from composer Anu Malik eventually became his first association with the world of Munna Bhai. The song was originally developed when Shah Rukh Khan was being considered for the lead role. However, Sanjay Dutt eventually stepped into the character.

Farhad Samji returns to the 'Munna Bhai' franchise

According to Variety India, Samji is reportedly working on the screenplay for 'Munna Bhai 3', marking another collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani. The filmmaker's association with the franchise began with 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.', which introduced audiences to Sanjay Dutt's popular character. While details about the upcoming film's storyline and casting remain undisclosed, Samji's reported involvement has brought attention to his earlier contribution.

His association with the first instalment was not initially through its screenplay but through one of its memorable musical tracks.

How Anu Malik approached Farhad Samji for 'M Bole Toh'

Samji's involvement with 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.' began when composer Anu Malik contacted him at around 10 PM. Malik wanted him to prepare a mukhda, or opening verse, for a song that would be discussed during a music session the following day.The meeting was scheduled with Rajkumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Samji was given an interesting creative challenge. Shah Rukh Khan was then being considered for the lead role, and the song needed to reflect Munna Bhai's tapori language while remaining suitable for the actor's established screen image.

What was 'Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.' about?
