Here’s when September SASSA grants be paid NEXT week

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) will begin its September 2026 grant payment cycle next week, with Older Person’s Grant beneficiaries receiving their payments on Wednesday, 2 September.

The staggered payment schedule is designed to reduce congestion at pay points and ensure millions of beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly manner.

SASSA has reminded recipients that there is no need to rush to withdraw their money on the first day, as funds will remain available in their accounts until they are needed.

Who gets paid and when?

The following grants are scheduled for payment on Wednesday, 2 September:

• Older Persons Grant
• Older Persons Grant (75 years and older)
• War Veterans Grant (where applicable)

Remaining September payment dates

SASSA’s payment calendar for the rest of the month is as follows:

• Thursday, 3 September: Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant
• Friday, 4 September: Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, Grant-in-Aid and all remaining children’s grants

Meanwhile, SASSA has reminded beneficiaries flagged for a grant review or required to complete eLife Certification that their payment will not follow the standard three-day cycle.

Payments for those beneficiaries who have been targeted for review will be made on Monday, 7 September.

Check your balance before travelling

The agency has encouraged beneficiaries to check their account balances before visiting pay points or retailers to avoid unnecessary trips and long queues.

SASSA also reminded recipients that grant payments are processed systematically during the payment period and appealed for patience while funds reflect in beneficiaries’ accounts.

Use SASSA’s online services

Beneficiaries who need to complete life certification are encouraged to use SASSA’s e-Life Certification platform via the Online Services Portal.

The digital service allows eligible beneficiaries to complete the process from home using secure biometric verification, reducing the need to visit SASSA offices.

Recipients are also urged to be wary of scams and to rely only on SASSA’s official communication channels for payment information or assistance with any delays or discrepancies.
