Vishvajit More became the first Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to win a silver medal at the Under-23 World Championships on Thursday.

More, who had previously bagged two bronze medals in the Championships, fought a fierce battle but lost 12-13 in the final to Georgia’s Koba Karumidze to settle for a silver.

He began his campaign with a 10-8 win over Mexico’s Isaac Marin Mata and the defeated Iranian U-20 world champion Armin Shamsipour in the quarterfinals. More then went past Russia’s Malik Gigiev in the semifinals.

In women’s event, Komal and Diksha Malik will play bronze medal matches.

The other Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers in the fray could not reach the medal round with Chetan (63kg) losing his pre-quarterfinal and Karan Kamboj (87kg) suffering a heavy technical superiority defeat in the qualification round.
