S’gor govt to provide free meals for SPM candidates

The Selangor government is planning to provide free meals for approximately 70,000 SPM candidates across the state through a special initiative known as Nutrisi Selangor (NutriSel) SPM 2026.

Menteri besar Amirudin Shari said the initiative aims to ensure that Form 5 students receive adequate meals throughout the examination period for core subjects, which is scheduled to take place soon.

“During the examination period, we will provide breakfast or an appropriate lunch for these students so that they can enter the examination halls without any hindrance and feel more motivated when answering the questions,” he said here today.

He said the NutriSel SPM 2026 initiative was part of the wider NutriSel programme, which began in August to look after the welfare and nutritional needs of 104,640 primary and secondary school students from the B40 group, with an allocation of more than RM12.5 million.

He said the programme’s allocation comprised RM7.82 million contributed by local authorities and RM4.73 million from the state economic planning unit.

Amirudin said the state government was also distributing free bread and milk to 993,670 pupils at 962 schools across Selangor through the Mega NutriSel initiative, in collaboration with strategic partners Farm Fresh and Gardenia.

“Mega NutriSel will continue until Nov 6 or 7, ahead of the SPM examination, with all students receiving the items in a one-off distribution.

“The allocation is smaller than that of the basic NutriSel programme because we want to include all students, with the initiative covering nearly 125,000 pupils in Shah Alam alone,” he said.
