MANILA, Philippines — Lawyer Levito Baligod, counsel for 18 individuals known as the “maleta boys,” and 14 others were arrested in San Juan City on Friday over an “unjust vexation” case, police said.

San Juan City Police Chief Police Col. Anthony Gantang confirmed the arrests in a phone interview with reporters. He said the Zambales Regional Trial Court issued the arrest warrant on Sept. 23.

Police arrested the individuals in front of the Hall of Justice in San Juan City, Gantang said.

Authorities could not yet confirm whether the 14 others arrested were among the “maleta boys.”

“Ngayon, nasa San Juan Police Station sila,” he said.

The court set bail at P10,000 each for the case, according to Gantang.

Under the Rules of Criminal Procedure, arrest warrants issued by Regional Trial Courts and Municipal Trial Courts are enforceable nationwide, allowing law enforcement officers to serve them outside the jurisdiction where they were issued./dp
