Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd 'robbed' in Costco – for unexpected reason

Translate

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has recalled a frustrating trip to Costco, during which he was 'robbed' by another customer. The David Platt actor left his trolley unattended in the shop and returned to find a coveted item missing.

Speaking on his podcast On The Sofa, Shepherd explained that he "always" goes to the wholesaler with his mother-in-law, as she has the membership card. Though he prefers tea, the star shared that his wife and mother-in-law are both "coffee snobs".

"They won't get their coffee at Costco either, but I said, 'Just for a laugh, while we're here, why don't we have a little fly down and see what we can get?'" he told co-stars Ben Price and Colson Smith.

While in the aisle, Shepherd saw a bag of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, "shoved" in a place "they don't know normally live". He explained that the coffee beans cost £240 per kg at the place they normally buy it.

Not knowing how much the Costco price was, Shepherd put the coffee in his trolley and carried on with his shopping. But after parking the trolley at the end of a different aisle, he came back to find the whole thing missing.

"Someone's nicked the trolley, the trolley's gone. And I'm going, 'We definitely left it here.' Now I'm blaming the mother-in-law. I went, 'Where have you put it?'"

The actor soon decided that there was "summat off" about the situation, and did a sweep of the shop to find his trolley. He finally located it on the "other side of the warehouse", but the coffee was gone.

"They must've seen us find it... Someone has literally, deliberately watched us park the trolley and they've nicked the trolley and taken it out," he theorised.

The pair spoke to someone at customer service, who explained that the coffee gets sold very quickly. Shepherd said he didn't expect to find it again, but wanted to know how much it cost.

"[It was] £29.99. And she went, 'Oh, and you know what? It's showing that that's the last bag on the system and it's discontinued.'"

Shepherd concluded that he wouldn't have said anything if he found the coffee in someone else's trolley. He explained that he would just look them in the eye and smile.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
