Pranavi Urs on Saturday helped India win a historic first-ever gold medal with a score of 15-under 265 in women’s golf at the Kasugai Country Club East Course. Additionally, the Indian women’s team bagged a silver medal.
The Mysuru-born golfer was the overnight leader with a score of 15-under 195. She had a three-shot lead over Singapore’s Shannon Xuan Yin Tan, while China’s Ruoning Yin was third.
However, a triple bogey on the third hole in the final round put her standing at risk early on the final day. At the same time, Yin had a birdie, while Tan had two bogeys in the first three holes, which temporarily brought the Chinese back in contention for gold.
Pranavi recovered from the early setback, recording birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes to retake the lead.
