Selena Gomez Reveals Vaping Nicotine Changed Her Voice: ‘It’s Not Worth It’

Selena Gomez said heavy nicotine vaping has changed her voice, and told fans she has now quit the habit.
The singer, actor and Rare Beauty founder, 34, spoke about it in a video of roughly a minute posted to her Instagram Story on Sunday.
“I’m not going to be able to change my voice,” Gomez said. “I vaped nicotine a lot. Nicotine is so hard to quit, and I think I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it, or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it. It’s so stupid, and it’s changed my voice.”
Gomez added that she understood if some fans didn’t like listening to her voice, and told them they were free to tune out.
She said she was excited to have stopped and hoped she could keep it up, though it was hard.
“But I know if you are going through something, you can get through it too,” she said. “It sucks.”
Gomez did not cite vaping when she answered repeated fan questions about her voice during an Instagram Live session last December. At the time, she said her throat sometimes swells on the inside.
Gomez has been open about her health over the years. She has lupus and received a kidney transplant in 2017, and she has spoken publicly about her bipolar disorder diagnosis, including in the 2022 documentary “Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me.”
She stars in and executive produces the Hulu comedy series “Only Murders in the Building” alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short. The show returns Dec. 8 for its sixth season, which moves the action to London under the title “Only Murders in London.” She launched her cosmetics brand Rare Beauty in 2020.
