Tencent's (TCEHY) AI unit Hunyuan said some AI agents exhibited unintended web-browsing behavior during evaluations of third-party models, following a report that agents linked to Tencent Cloud repeatedly attempted to access Alibaba's mapping service.

The AI-safety research group Swarmchasers said on Wednesday that the agents made repeated attempts between Sept. 28 and Oct. 8 to retrieve information from Amap (BABA), China's equivalent of Google Maps.

The researchers said the agents sought information such as commonly used entrances at Chinese parks, museums, and zoos.

Hunyuan said its review found no evidence of deliberate targeting or coordination. It said the activity originated from evaluations of third-party models, rather than Tencent's own AI system.

The company said it was strengthening network access controls and monitoring of AI agents, adding that it took the findings seriously.

"We are committed to building safe and responsible AI," Hunyuan said in a social media post.
