Rising WNBA star Olivia Miles eclipses Caitlin Clark's rookie scoring record

When it comes to the WNBA Draft, the Minnesota Lynx have shown over the years the front office knows how to pick the right players to fill out their roster.

Olivia Miles was the right selection for the Lynx this year.

Minnesota selected the New Jersey native with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft this past spring and she quickly turned into a rising star on the floor. On Sunday, in the Lynx’s 101-89 victory over the Connecticut Sun, Miles set the rookie scoring mark once held by Caitlin Clark.

Miles scored 21 points to eclipse the Indiana Fever star’s mark initially set in 2024.

"It’s special, but it means we’re more so working well as a team. I have great teammates around me, great vets who allow me to be me out there," Miles said after the game. "It wouldn’t be possible without one, a coach that believes in you and then two, having teammates that have my back. So it’s really special to obviously be able to accomplish that with such a great team and on a win as well."

Miles has 790 points this season in 40 games. Though the WNBA expanded the schedule going into 2026, Miles and Clark both set the marks in 40 games.

Clark had 769 points in her first season with the Fever.

The former TCU Horned Frogs standout eclipsed other rookie records held by Clark this season. She nailed eight 3-pointers in a win over the Golden State Valkyries in June, setting the record for the most 3-pointers by a rookie in a game.

Miles is also the fastest rookie to reach 350 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists in her career. She did it in 21 games, one faster than Clark and former Chicago Sting guard Andrea Stinson.

Minnesota is 32-10 on the year and is one game up on the Valkyries for first place in the league.
