Translate

RC Lens suffered the heaviest defeat in the history of French football in European competition, losing 9-1 at home to Como in the Champions League. Having already been beaten by Club Brugge (3-0) and Sporting CP (2-0), Lens have now suffered three consecutive defeats in Europe.

In the other matches of the Champions League, Real Madrid snatched a 3-2 victory over AEK Athens thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Federico Valverde.

Liverpool lost 3-2 to Fenerbahçe, while Manchester City beat Leipzig by the same scoreline.

In the Europa League, Rennes were held to a goalless draw by Olympiacos but remain unbeaten in the competition.

Lyon have officially announced Paulo Fonseca's departure. He will be temporarily replaced by Jorge Maciel, who will take charge against Real Sociedad on Thursday.

At the Dakar Summer Youth Olympics, Japan's Mana Ishikawa claimed her third swimming title. Austria and the Netherlands won gold in the men's and women's beach volleyball events respectively.

Finally, at the Rolex Paris Masters, Arthur Fils beat Tomas Machac (6-3, 7-6) to reach the last 16. He will compete at the ATP Finals in Turin, unlike Novak Djokovic, who was knocked out by Rinky Hijikata. Alexander Zverev was also eliminated by Lorenzo Musetti in his first match as world number one.
