Weather Report: the picture across all nine provinces

Tuesday, 22 September’s Weather Report shows a mix of foggy mornings, warm temperatures and afternoon thunderstorms across several parts of the country.

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and cool to warm.

Isolated showers and thundershowers will develop during the afternoon. 

Johannesburg can expect a partly sunny day, with a high of 23°C.

SAWS has issued no severe weather warnings, fire danger warnings or advisories for Tuesday, a genuinely settled day after a busy warnings-heavy week.

WHERE THE WARM SPELLS AND AFTERNOON SHOWERS WILL HIT

North West will also see partly cloudy conditions. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected.

The Free State will see patches of morning fog in the east and along the Lesotho border.

It will then become partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

Mpumalanga will start with cloudy conditions in some areas.

Fog is expected over parts of the Highveld. The weather will become partly cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers. The Lowveld will remain warmer.

Limpopo could see morning cloud, drizzle and fog along the escarpment.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected over the central and south-eastern parts of the province later in the day.

WHY THE COAST WILL SEE THE WARMEST TEMPERATURES TODAY

The Northern Cape will have morning fog in the south.

It will then become partly cloudy and cool to warm. Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected across most of the province, except the north-west.

The Western Cape will start with cloudy conditions and morning fog along the south coast.

It will then become partly cloudy and warm to hot. 

Cape Town could see the warmest temperatures on Tuesday, reaching 28°C.

Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected across parts of the province, though the extreme south-west should stay dry.

The Eastern Cape could see afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

The western half will be partly cloudy and warm after morning fog south of the escarpment, with scattered thunderstorms expected from the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal will start Tuesday with morning fog over the interior.

Later, it will become partly cloudy and cool to warm.

Meanwhile, isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected, as coastal winds change direction throughout the day.

Overall, it’s a genuinely welcome, calmer day after a stretch of severe warnings across the country this past week.

Even so, keep an umbrella handy given the isolated afternoon showers expected almost everywhere.
