Coronation Street favourite Vicky Myers reflects on Alison King's 20 years with soap amid huge night for Swarla fans
Vicky Myers has praised her Coronation Street co-star Alison King after they were awarded the gong for Best Partnership at last night's Inside Soap Awards.
The actress, who plays Lisa Connor-Swain in the ITV soap, was also celebrating winning the Best Actress trophy at a ceremony held in Manchester.
"Oh my goodness. I never expected it, genuinely, and I'm very touched," she told Radio Times on the red carpet.
"And I think that goes down to the loyalty and the unwavering support of the fans is just off the scale, and I couldn't be more grateful. To be acknowledged and to achieve this is really something that I never expected, even last year."
It's been quite the eventful year for Lisa and new wife Carla. The pair faced a rocky road towards marriage, with Lisa's ex-wife Becky (Amy Cudden) returning from years in witness protection to try and jeopardise their happiness.
She held Carla hostage and planned to whisk her family off to another country, though was finally arrested during the crossover episode with Emmerdale.
Sadly, married life has been anything but harmonious. Lisa's daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) has suffered two strokes – a storyline which raised awareness of non-fatal sexual strangulation.
Despite the turmoil, Myers told RT that she loves the dynamic between the Connor-Swains.
"You've got Ryan, who's just so beautiful, and he's had his problems and struggles, and the way that he is very much like a sibling/uncle to Betsy. Carla loves Betsy as her own, which leaves us extremely grateful. And then obviously the dynamic between Ryan and Lisa, and the love between Lisa and Carla."
She continued: "Then you've got the extended family. You've got David Neilson. Legend. Oh my goodness. It's just really beautiful. That's the only reason why [Lisa] married [Carla], really."
When asked whether Lisa may become a player in her colleague Kit Green's (Jacob Roberts) breast cancer battle, Myers teased: "I think the dynamic between Kit and Lisa is really interesting, and it can be quite sibling-like. Maybe something will come in the future. I think it'll be interesting to see how that unfolds."
"There's also lots of other things that are going on that I can't say too much about."
This year marks King's 20th year of playing Carla – and Myers couldn't be prouder of her colleague.
"I think it would be remiss not to mention the fact that it's Ali King's 20th year," she began.
"We marked that last week because it was it was 20 years since she filmed her first scene, which was just amazing. So, what a phenomenal achievement! Long may it continue."
