Fiorentina captain De Gea reacts to Man City charges: ‘How many league titles have I won then?’

Fiorentina captain and former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has responded to Manchester City’s guilty verdict with a pointed question about his own trophy cabinet.

Posting on X after Friday’s ruling, the Fiorentina goalkeeper wrote: “How many Premier League titles have I won then?”

Why De Gea has a stake in this

City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against them over breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations, with sanctions ranging from a reprimand and fines to points deductions and even expulsion. Crucially, points deductions can be applied retrospectively, raising the possibility that City could lose titles.

The charges relate to the period between 2009-10 and 2017-18. City won three Premier League titles in that window: two with Manchester United finishing runners-up, and one ahead of Liverpool.

De Gea was United’s goalkeeper throughout. He has one Premier League winner’s medal, from 2012-13. Were City stripped of those two titles and they were reallocated, his personal count would rise to three.

City are expected to appeal, and no sanction has yet been decided.
