Taylor Swift Announces New Single “Patient Zero”

Pop’s resident Jigsaw wants to play another game. Taylor Swift has spent the last week dropping her characteristic Easter eggs: She changed her Instagram bio to “And, baby, that's sh0w business f0r y0u. ❤️‍🔥”; tweaked the layout of the “Read My Letter” page of her website (yes, these things are significant); and, in a Law & Order-themed skit that aired during the 2026 Emmy Awards on Monday, September 14, rattled off a string of nonsense words that, according to some keen-eyed fans, unscramble to reveal the message “HI MY FIRST RECORD’S RE-RECORD IS OUT NOV TEN. AHAHAHA.”

As of today, Swift has not shared any plans around Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version). She has, however, announced a new single. Out this Friday, September 25, “Patient Zero” (as well as its “acoustic” and “piano” versions) can be purchased in CD format on Swift’s webstore. Check out the song’s three separate single covers below.

Swift put out The Life of a Showgirl, her record-breaking 15th No. 1 album, last October. This year, Swift has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the National Recording Registry, dropped music videos for the Showgirl tracks “Opalite” and “Elizabeth Taylor,” and lent the original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” to Toy Story 5. At this Sunday’s MTV VMAs, where her nine nods leave her behind only Madonna, Swift will be honored with the—checks notes—inaugural “Artist Director Honors.” Something tells me we’ll be hearing more from her soon.
