The Nations League includes some matchups we didn’t get to see during the World Cup. Reigning champions Spain will take on Croatia, one of five nations to reach a World Cup final without winning. It’ll be something of a clash of generations, with the 19-year-old phenom Lamine Yamal facing off against the 41-year-old Luka Modrić, Croatia’s most-decorated footballer.

Croatia and Spain both remain undefeated in their group matches, with the former beating Czechia 2-1 and the latter triumphing over England 3-2, including a goal from Yamal within the first three minutes.

The last time the teams met was in 2024, with Spain beating Croatia 3-0. The reigning World Cup champs are unsurprisingly the favorites heading into the matchup, whose technical, possession-heavy style of play has proven hard for other countries to crack.

Teams in the Nations League are split into four Leagues, which are further split into groups. League A includes the most successful teams; France and Italy are in Group 1, Germany and Netherlands are in Group 2, Spain and Croatia are in Group 3, and Portugal and Norway are in Group 4.

The League phase ends in mid-November, followed by quarterfinals in March 2027 and the finals in June.
