PH to review abandoned Melaka projects, monorail if it wins polls

Pakatan Harapan (PH) will review several abandoned projects in Melaka, including the monorail service, if given the mandate to form the state government in the Nov 14 polls.
Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari said this was crucial to ensure the proper management of public funds, as voters have the right to know how much money was spent on each project, how the funds were utilised and who was responsible for reviving the projects.
Adly said the review would, among other things, determine whether the projects could continue through new investments or if they should be scrapped.
“For instance, RM16.5 million was spent on the monorail project, but its service was halted in 2020. The people deserve an explanation on the status of the assets, maintenance costs and a reasonable plan for its revival.
“The impact of these abandoned projects is negative in many respects, particularly in terms of safety, the future of tourism and Melaka’s image.
“Whoever is given the mandate must have a clear agenda on what needs to be done with these projects,” said Adly, whom PH has named as its chief minister candidate.
The Bukit Katil candidate said PH would also seek to deliver public assistance more transparently and cut out bureaucratic practices.
“The fact is that when the PH government took office in 2018, it had already addressed some of the bureaucratic issues and partisan politics in the distribution of assistance, ensuring that all forms of aid were channelled through government agencies,” the Amanah vice-president added.
