Scotland coach Pocognoli calls up 6 Serie A players in his first squad

Sebastien Pocognoli has named six Serie A-based players in his first Scotland squad, with Sassuolo providing two of them.

According to Sky Sports, defender Josh Doig and forward Kieron Bowie are both recalled after missing the World Cup, having impressed at the Mapei Stadium, Bowie scored in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Juventus, with Doig also featuring.

McTominay and Adams miss out through injury

Napoli midfielder Billy Gilmour returns after a knee problem forced him to withdraw from Steve Clarke’s final Scotland squad, while Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson, Udinese’s Lennon Miller and Torino defender Nathan Patterson complete the Italian contingent. Miller is another of the seven players back in after missing the World Cup.

Two notable Serie A absentees are Scott McTominay, who is recovering from minor heart surgery at Napoli, and Torino’s Che Adams, who is injured. Both travelled to the World Cup.

Pocognoli’s first games in charge are Nations League fixtures away to Slovenia on 26 September and at home to Switzerland three days later.
