The Inbetweeners creators issue plea to fans ahead of Netflix sequel

The creators of The Inbetweeners have urged fans to "avoid" photos of the upcoming movie as filming gets underway.

The Inbetweeners 3 sees the return of actors Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison as they reprise their roles as Will McKenzie, Simon Cooper, Jay Cartwright, and Neil Sutherland.

Of course, the troublesome schoolboys are now adults, and storylines for the sequel have already begun to emerge, including a wedding.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (22 September), writers Damon Beesley and Iain Morris shared a message with fans regarding the cast, as well as the plot.

Sharing a photo of the four main actors reading scripts, they began the message: "Beepidy beep beep, time for an Inbetweeners update. As you probably know, we’ve started filming a new Inbetweeners adventure.

"We love that everyone is interested, and it’s brilliant that these four idiots are still considered news.

"We’re all excited for the film, but the rumour mill can sometimes get carried away, so our advice is simple: if you want to fully enjoy what we’ve got in store for you, we’d suggest avoiding photos and conjecture about the story. We promise it’ll be a more enjoyable watch going in knowing nothing."

The caption continued: "Where we can, we’ll share little updates from the set here. Also, for the record, we’d like to clarify that, try as we might, we couldn’t squeeze every single beloved character from the TV shows into this new film. That's on us, and us alone.

"Again, people will speculate about why we make these choices, but sadly the truth is we just couldn’t find a plausible way in the script to bring back all our lovely ‘friends’. It’s not as headline worthy, but it’s the truth."

The message ended with: "Stay tuned for more boring updates like this. Love, yes love, Damon and Iain."

Their social media post comes just days after filming photos (via Daily Mail) confirmed that Emily Head will be reprising her role as Carli D'Amato and Martin Trenaman returns as Simon's dad Alan Cooper.

It is unclear whose wedding is taking place in the photos but given that Simon's dad is in attendance, a good bet could be that Thomas's character is the one to tie the knot.

The Inbetweeners 3 does not yet have a release date.
