Jamie Lee Curtis to be honored at the Children’s Institute Gala with the Inaugural Award

Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner had been involved in philanthropic work for years, and one of the main causes they stood by was the Children’s Institute. Not only that, but Michele’s sister, Martine Singer, once served as president and CEO for nearly a decade. In order to honor their contribution to the institution, they created an award that was inspired by the Reiner family. The Hollywood Reporter shared that the institution worked with their children, Jake and Romy Reiner, to inaugurate the Champion for Change award in their honor at the upcoming gala event.

The award has been created to honor and remember their “lifelong commitment to improving the lives of children and families and strengthening communities across Los Angeles, throughout California, and beyond.” According to the outlet, the award will be presented at the Cape & Gown Gala at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, California, on November 8.Jamie Lee Curtis, who is best known for her roles in ‘True Lies,' ‘Freaky Friday,' ‘Freakier Friday,' and many others, has been selected as the first-ever recipient of the honor.

Curtis was close to the Reiner family and has been a big advocate for children's and families' rights, along with other philanthropic activities over the years.Famed singer John Mayer, who created the song ‘Say’ for Rob Reiner’s 2007 film ‘The Bucket List' starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, is slated to perform at the gala event in the couple’s honor.

What happened to Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner?

Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were found deceased in their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on December 14, 2025, by their daughter, Romy.

They were found in their home with multiple stab wounds, after which the authorities later arrested their other son, Nick Reiner. He was later indicted by a Los Angeles County grand jury on July 20, 2026, on two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstance allegations, including lying in wait and use of a deadly weapon.

The prosecutors also later announced that they will not be seeking the death penalty against Reiner, which indicates that if he is convicted in the case, he will face life in prison without any chance of parole. Since the time he has been in custody, Nick Reiner has appealed on multiple occasions to get access to the trust fund that his parents had established for him.
