Sri Lanka bring in Malinga with Hasaranga ruled out of series

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first in Headingley, as they continue to look for their first taste of victory on tour.

England maintained their dominance over the visitors with a comfortable 89-run victory in the first ODI on a fairly tacky surface, but the pitch in Leeds is expected to be much quicker with more assistance for the seamers.

"We bowled really well, and the fielding was very good," Mendis said at the toss. "Today, we have to bat a little bit better compared to the last match. It looks like a very good wicket. We have to put a very [big] score on the board."

Harry Brook said: "We would have had a bowl, so we're pretty pleased with that. I like batting here. I like playing here in front of my home crowd. It looks [like] a good wicket, hence why we wanted to chase. It's a tough ground to defend, quick outfield, good pitch. Hopefully we can restrict them to a low score."

England hold a pretty even record at Headingley but have lost their last two games at the venue, as well as being beaten by Sri Lanka on the ground during the 2019 World Cup.

That Lankan triumph was instigated by an inspired Lasith Malinga, and it's another Malinga - Eshan - who will be looking to do similar as he comes in for Dushmantha Chameera. There is another game too for legspinner Sachindu Colombage, who claimed 3 for 44 on debut last time out, with the latest from the Sri Lankan camp being that Wanindu Hasaranga is out for the remainder of the series and will fly back to Sri Lanka having aggravated a hamstring injury. England have named an unchanged XI.
