Lea Salonga emotional as son Nic Chien begins college journey
Lea Salonga turned emotional as she sent off her son, Nic Chien, who officially began his college journey and moved into a dormitory.
The celebrity mom documented Nic’s moving-in day, showing the two of them in a tight hug before parting ways, through her Instagram page on Saturday, Aug. 21.
“My babes is now officially moved into his dorm. This new adventure has begun in earnest,” she said in the caption. “It was definitely an emotional few days for us, but we’ll be okay.”

Salonga and Nic were accompanied by director Victor Lirio, whom the Broadway star expressed gratitude to.

“Many thanks to Victor for driving the long drive, schlepping all the things, and treating me to a much-needed espresso martini when we returned to the city,” she wrote.
She then addressed her son, “Onward and upward, Nic! We’re all so proud of you!”
Nic is set to pursue his studies in Ithaca, New York.

Nic is Salonga’s son with her former husband Robert Chien. Nic came out as transmasculine when he was 14 years old then started his transition in 2025.
Nic has followed in the footsteps of his mom, pursuing a career in the performing arts and starring in musicals such as “Into The Woods” and “Spring Awakening.” /ra
