Failed networking vendor Cambium set to turn off its cloudy management portal

Quits enterprise networking hardware business, tells users to install on-prem software ASAP

Networking hardware vendor Cambium Networks has entered administration and advised customers that its cloud services likely won’t survive for long.

The company has not been in the best of health for some time. In August 2025, management admitted that its financial reports for financial years 2022 and 2023, plus reports for six subsequent quarters, were unreliable as they included errors. The NASDAQ stock exchange later delisted the company, which unsuccessfully tried to rejoin the bourse.

In May, a filing [PDF] revealed that the company’s officers had “substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern.”

Sadly, they appear to have been correct, as last week the company published another filing [PDF] revealing it had let go of 260 staff – 53.6 percent of its workforce – without any severance payments.

A statement [PDF] soon followed, revealing the appointment of administrators in the UK, and an end to production of the company’s Wi-Fi access points, NSE firewalls, and cnMatrix switches.

“At this point, it is anticipated that the fixed wireless broadband business will largely resume after a relatively short pause,” the statement reveals.

While administrators try to stabilize the bits of the biz they think are worth saving, distributors are free to offload any existing products in their possession. Administrators will try to sell Cambium’s own stock of products.

So far, so fire sale.

But the statement includes another important line: “The intention is that cnMaestro Cloud will continue to operate at least through 1 October.”

cnMaestro Cloud is the hosted management plane for Cambium’s products and looks set to close.

In a knowledge base article titled “Guidance for cnMaestro Enterprise Customers,” the company admits “the cnMaestro Cloud may not support Enterprise devices post October 1st, 2026” and therefore recommends users install the on-prem version of cnMaestro, ASAP.

If users can get that done before October 1, it won’t be the end of the matter, because Cambium has only made the software available under a 90-day trial license.

Once that period expires, the software will lose some functionality.

“We expect that if the Enterprise business is acquired by an entity, they will help you with an appropriate extension or replacement of trial and will guide you with the process,” according to an FAQ.

Cambium customers therefore face a sprint to keep their kit manageable, and an uncertain future after that.

“Cambium Networks recognizes and appreciates the shock and situation our customers and partners have been placed in,” reads the statement advising the company is in the hands of administrators. “Cambium Networks will work to provide additional communication and direction in the coming days.”

Also in coming days, The Register imagines Cambium customers will ponder whether to ever again let themselves to be tied to a cloud service when an on-prem alternative is available. ®
