VP Sara Duterte, husband own 51 guns – witness

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases “Mans” Carpio, have over 50 guns registered under their names, a witness told the Senate impeachment court on Monday.

According to Maj. Jerickson Sangalang of the Philippine National Police (PNP) firearms and explosives office, Duterte alone has a total of 22 guns registered to her, specifically:

• 14 pistols
• Two revolvers
• Five rifles (of which three are Class A weapons)
• One shotgun

Meanwhile, Sangalang said Carpio has the following 29 guns registered to his name:

Furthermore, the PNP official also noted that Carpio has one expired firearms license based on their records.

Class A light weapons, as explained by Sangalang, refer to guns with a caliber of up to 7.62 with automatic functions or fully automatic.

A fully automatic gun, on the other hand, is capable of burst fire—which means that a single pull of the trigger fires off multiple shots.

“Stated in RA (Republic Act) 10591, Section 10, only law enforcement agencies can acquire Class A light weapons, especially PNP and AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines),” said Sangalang.

“However, for those individuals who have acquired them prior to the effectivity of this law, they can still continue to own their Class A weapon,” he added.
