Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted an AI-generated image of a nuclear explosion over Tel Aviv on X on Sunday, October 25, two days before Israel votes in its election on October 27. The post carried statements by commentator Yuval Blumberg warning of an “existential threat” from Iran, and Netanyahu said in it that Israel has two more years of US President Donald Trump in office to deal with that threat. Opponents quickly attacked the post, and two party leaders accused Netanyahu of using fear to win votes.
What the post said
The image showed a large mushroom cloud above a crowded city, with an explosion covering several buildings below it. Netanyahu posted it together with statements by Blumberg.

The text said Israel is in “real and tangible existential danger” and that if Iran gets nuclear weapons, “nothing will ever be the same again”. It described the rows around the government as “one giant smokescreen” meant to hide the one issue that matters most. It also asked: “If two atomic bombs fall in the center of the country, who will care about all these fake storms?”
Netanyahu said Israel has “another two years of Trump to finish the work in Iran”. He said it is not known who will follow Trump, naming Kamala Harris as one possibility, and that “future generations will not forgive us” if Israel misses this window.

The post said the state must put all the resources it needs into the task. It also said the job would not be done by a prime minister who “can’t withstand the pressure of a TV interview” or who cannot hold a close, continuous conversation with Trump by phone.
Claims over the timing of a new war
Critics have recently accused Netanyahu of pushing to restart the war with Iran to influence or delay the October 27 vote. He has denied this.
The outlet also said IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir reportedly told a recent private meeting that he saw no operational need to strike Iran before the election.

How opponents responded
Yair Golan, chairman of The Democrats party, wrote on X that the prime minister had published a picture of an atomic bomb over Tel Aviv. He asked that Netanyahu be kept away from social media and said the prime minister and those around him “have lost it”. He added that the pressure was mounting.

Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yashar party, also replied on X. “Netanyahu, you’re in a hysteria,” he wrote, and said the prime minister was using the same method of lies and scare tactics as in every campaign, this time “threatening Israeli citizens with mass destruction”.
He said Netanyahu had failed to reach the war’s goals against Iran and had moved from promises of total victory to “we won’t surrender”. Eisenkot said voters would answer at the ballot box in two days and that his party would form the next government.
Israel votes on Tuesday. Seats in the 120-member parliament are shared out by proportional representation, based on the nationwide vote. A party needs 61 seats to hold a majority.
