Asian Games 2026: Seema breaks 16-year drought for India in women’s 10,000m with historic bronze

India’s Seema clinched a historic bronze in the women’s 10,000m final at the Asian Games 2026 at Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday. Her medal breaks a 16-year drought in the discipline for India. Seema finished the race with a time of 32:50.05.
India’s last Asiad medals in this event came in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China where Preeja Sreedharan took gold with a timing of 31:50.47 with Kavita Raut took silver with a time of 31:51.44.

Seema finished behind Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi and Nozomi Tanaka from Japan.
The Indian runner had gotten off to a strong start and part of the seven-member lead pack right from the beginning. She held on and kept up with Yavi and Tanaka, when they broke away with three laps to go.
Yavi, running her first recorded 10,000m race, turned on the after burners in the last 200m to execute a clinical final kick and win a gold.
