‘NCIS: New York’ Trailer Reveals LL Cool J’s Character Sam Hanna’s Return & His New Team

NCIS: New York has dropped its first trailer (above), and there are so many details packed into the video, setting up the series premiere on October 6.

In the pilot, after years of special assignments and covert ops, Special Agent Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) returns to his hometown of New York City for a brand-new mission. When Sam’s friend and Navy reservist Jack Halloway is found dead, he requests permission from Assistant Special Agent-In-Charge Robyn Wells (Jennifer Beals) to investigate his friend’s death. As the team investigates Jack’s death, they work together to gather key information that can help find the culprits.

The trailer reveals the moment when Robyn introduces Sam and Nick, who will work closely on the cast along with the rest of the team: clean-cut Wyatt Sellers (Shane Harper), bright-eyed Addy Ross (Jacqueline Byers) and hacker-turned-computer guy Sean Sullivan (Devin Druid).

During a recent chat with showrunner and executive producer Byron Belasco (Kingdom, Without a Trace), who developed the series alongside R. Scott Gemmill (The Pitt, NCIS: Los Angeles), shared further details into the crew.

On Wyatt: He is just a good old boy from Alaska. You know, a really nice guy. He lived a very sort of – not sheltered life, but just a different life than one in New York City. So when we’re meeting him, he had plans that got t-boned by a breakup, and now he’s trying to figure out. With life not going how he expected, he wonders how life for him would look like in New York. What is the path forward? He’s a great agent. He’s really tough and just a good, solid, loyal guy.

On Addy: She comes from a long line of military officers in the Navy. She’s the youngest of four, with three older brothers. For her, if a pizza was ordered in the house, she had to fight her way to just get a slice. This translated into who she is now, which is very aggressive, very strong, very strong willed, but also, she really cares about the cases and her team. She will do anything for them. She also has her own emotional baggage she’s dealing with in terms of her father and the complicated relationship has with him.

On Sean: He is our wayward boy. He there because he’s working off a little bit of a penalty for a crime he committed. It’s not his first choice to be there. But our team and Robyn in particular are taking it upon themselves to bring Sean into the light to show him that being part of a team and being part of something that matters really makes a difference. Sean’s a little resistant to that, but he’s a human, and I think everybody feels that way. You’ll see him opening up, and he and Robyn have a really special relationship. They kind of relate to each other on a personal level, in a lot of ways.
