'I am not that woman': Presenter Nani Roslan denies being detained with Nik Nazmi

KUALA LUMPUR: Presenter and influencer Nani Roslan has denied being the woman reportedly detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) with former minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad last Thursday.
Nani said she was taken aback by the controversy linking her to the incident and felt compelled to clarify the matter publicly.
"I am not that woman. I never expected to have to come forward to explain this.
"However, when my name, pictures and videos began being linked to various speculations, I felt it was time to speak up," she said in a video posted on her Instagram account yesterday.
She said what disappointed her most was that the speculation had escalated into lewd, insulting and degrading comments about her as a woman.
"I believe no woman deserves to be subjected to obscene comments, have her dignity undermined or be humiliated based on baseless speculation.
"Some have even accused me of being involved in a plan related to the incident. I want to stress that this is completely untrue," she said.
Nani said that throughout her career as a professional presenter, she had hosted various programmes and events involving people from different backgrounds.
She added that even before the controversy, some parties had blocked her and refused to work with her at the last minute because they associated her professional engagements with certain political parties.
"I want to make it clear that doing my job does not mean I am promoting any particular party's political views," she said.
Nani also said her involvement as a podcast host alongside Nik Nazmi had ended on Sept 30.
"People can be curious, but they must remain respectful. I understand that because I am also a social media user, but that does not mean they can be rude.
"Freedom of speech is not a licence to defame others, which can have legal consequences," she said.
Yesterday, Nik Nazmi, the former Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, confirmed that he was one of two people detained by Jais last Thursday.
The former PKR vice-president said the incident occurred while he was having a discussion with friends at a studio in Brickfields.
Following his admission, the Bersama co-founder was suspended from all official party activities for three months.
