Former Qld education worker charged with historical child sex offences

A Queensland man who previously worked with the education department has been charged with a string of historic child sex offences, and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Dion Ashley Paulsen has been charged with two counts of indecent treatment of a child, and one count each of unlawful sodomy and taking a child for immoral purposes, along with contravening an order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.

The 52-year-old remains in custody after facing Toowoomba Magistrates Court earlier this month for the charges that relate to alleged offending against a teenage boy between 2007 and 2010.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Police said Mr Paulsen worked at education facilities in Toowoomba, the Lockyer Valley and Townsville between 2007 and 2010.

"Police are committed to investigating all reports of child sexual abuse and encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward," Queensland Police said in a statement.

A Department of Education spokesperson said it was aware that a former staff member had been charged by police and the person was no longer an employee.

The spokesperson said guidance support was in place for any students and staff who required assistance, while parents and caregivers were encouraged to discuss any concerns with the school principal.
