Tim Burton's 92-minute horror classic has hit an incredible new milestone 38 years later, just in time for the Halloween season. Burton's movies are considered some of the most visionary in horror fantasy, from the romantic overtones of Edward Scissorhands to the stop-motion dark fantasy story of The Corpse Bride. His decades of filmmaking have brought both many memorable stories and characters, a majority of whom remain relevant in pop culture to this very day. One such story made an important impression in the 1980s, the source of many hallmarks of his creativity.

That story is Beetlejuice. Released in 1988, the gothic horror comedy stars Michael Keaton as the titular Beetlejuice, a trickster spirit who becomes embroiled in the lives of ghosts Barbara and Adam Maitland. The two spirits' lives are upended when the Deetz family moves into their old home. They contact Beetlejuice, who claims to be a "bio-exorcist" who can help scare the Deetz family out of the house. However, chaos ensues when a series of hilarious and horrifying events stem from the jokester's soul.

Burton's Beetlejuice Has Creeped Its Way Past An Impressive Milestone

Now, Beetlejuice has managed to earn an impressive milestone on streaming. According to data from October 1, 2026, Burton's horror comedy has crossed 90 days in the US Top 10 on HBO Max. As of writing, the movie sits at Number 8 on the platform, just above the Tom Cruise-led War of the Worlds adaptation and the 2018 horror movie Truth or Dare. This milestone means the movie has spent three months in the Top 10 across its lifetime on the platform, a notable accomplishment worthy of praise.

The original movie is a classic in the horror comedy genre, with its current bout of success reflective of how long it's managed to stay in the public consciousness for. The movie is considered one of Keaton's best roles, but was also a breakout for star Winona Ryder, who played the physic goth teenager Lydia Deetz. The pair would later reprise their roles in the 2024 legacy sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which was both a critical and commercial success in its own right.

Will There Be A Beetlejuice 3?

As of writing, it's unclear if Beetlejuice 3 will actually be moving forward. While Warner Bros. Pictures CEO Michael De Luca claimed a sequel was in development by April 2025, Burton stated in July of that year that he'd never been contacted about another movie in the franchise. Warner Bros. is also in the midst of its merger with Paramount as well, making it unclear which franchises will be taking the spotlight moving forward. Only time will tell if the third film ever comes to fruition.

But, for now, the original Beetlejuice is performing extremely well on streaming. The movie clearly still has an important place in modern-day pop culture, especially as it continues to get eyes on it. With the Halloween season now approaching, Burton's film is likely going to have plenty more viewership ahead. It's possible it could cross another important milestone soon, depending on how interested viewers are.
