Lautaro Martinez scored a brace for Serie A champion Inter Milan to help it rescue a draw against Roma on Saturday, September 20.

The clash pitted the two teams with perfect records in the league so far against each other, perhaps providing an early indication of what the title race could look like this year.

Roma took the lead inside the first 10 minutes as Manu Kone contorted himself to fire home a knockdown from Nahuel Molina. The French midfielder then doubled his tally when he fired home at the back post.

The goal was initially disallowed by the referee for offside, but was given after a lengthy VAR check.

Inter’s route back into the match began when Martinez scuffed a shot from a Marcus Thuram cutback into the side-netting to halve the deficit.

With just under 10 minutes to go, Martinez headed onto the bar after a goalmouth scramble, but when Inter recycled the ball, he controlled with his thigh and finished past Mile Svilar to ensure the spoils were shared.

Inter, Roma, and Lazio are now all tied on 13 points after five matches.
