5 passengers, driver hurt as vehicle falls into ravine in Ilocos Sur

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — A driver and five passengers sustained minor injuries after the vehicle they were traveling in fell into a ravine along the Cervantes-Quirino Provincial Road in Barangay Remedios. Cervantes town on Friday, Sept. 11.
In a report on Saturday, police said personnel of the Cervantes Municipal Police Station, led by Capt. Oliver Sari, acting chief of police, responded to the self-vehicular traffic incident, together with personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Cervantes and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Cervantes.

The injured driver and passengers were immediately brought to Bessang Pass District Hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the vehicle was successfully retrieved from the ravine through the joint efforts of responding authorities, residents from Mankayan, Benguet, and other concerned citizens.
Motorists were reminded to check their “blowbagets”—battery, lights, oil, water, brake, air, gas, engine, tires, and self—before hitting the road and to always observe road safety. /mcm
