Police arrest suspected serial rapist targeting Enugu PoS operators
The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 30-year-old man, Ugbor Paul, for alleged serial rape, armed robbery and sextortion of female Point-of-Sale operators and young women in Enugu metropolis.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Tuesday.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect specialised in luring female POS operators to secluded locations under the pretext of conducting high-value cash transactions before robbing and sexually assaulting them.
Ndukwe added that the suspect also created a fake Facebook account under the name ‘Franklin Umeh’ to entrap unsuspecting female victims online.
A mobile phone recovered from the suspect during his arrest reportedly contained several explicit videos and nude photographs of identified and unidentified victims.
Detailing the suspect’s alleged operational history, Ndukwe stated, “The first victim, a 20-year-old POS operator at Akwata Market, Enugu, was lured to a bush behind St. Peter’s Church, Coal Camp, at about 11:00 a.m. on May 21, 2026, where the suspect allegedly robbed her of N600,000 and raped her.

“The second victim, a 30-year-old POS operator at the same market, was lured to the same location at about 5:00 p.m. on August 11, 2026, and robbed of N120,000 after unsuccessful attempts to rape her.”
The police spokesman further disclosed that on October 4, 2026, the suspect used his fraudulent Facebook profile to lure a 21-year-old woman to Old Park, Enugu, before taking her to a bush path along Udi Siding.
He allegedly raped her, recorded her nude and dispossessed her of N100,000 and her mobile phone. The suspect subsequently demanded N200,000 to suppress the footage while using her phone to contact her WhatsApp acquaintances.
Ndukwe noted that investigations were ongoing and assured that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
He urged other victims of cyberstalking, sexual violence or sextortion to contact the command to assist the ongoing prosecution.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, advised business operators and residents, particularly women, to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals to security agencies.
