MANILA – A letter to the editor posted on Inquirer.net in July, 2026, written by Fernan J. Angeles has been taken down from the Opinion channel of the site.

In his letter, Angeles made claims against the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), the main claim of which focused on the alleged failure of the power distribution company to refund its customers.

The decision to remove the said letter was reached after Meralco rebutted the claims made by Angeles. The rebuttal letter was sent to Inquirer and was posted immediately.

A letter chosen to be published by PDI is also posted on Inquirer.net.

In vetting the letters sent to the Inquirer, the editors make sure the writer has an address, usually an email address, and, at times, a contact number.

Letters that usually get published contain views or claims on news stories or issues of general interest and significance to the public. There is no intention to misinform the public, and Inquirer acts accordingly if there’s a reaction, clarification or rebuttal on claims made, or on persons or institutions named or cited in the published letter.

Inquirer based its decision to take down the letter on this policy.
