Bali leads Indonesia’s hotel occupancy rates in July: BPS

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported that Bali, Banten and Yogyakarta recorded the highest occupancy rates for star-rated hotels in July 2026.

Bali posted the highest rate at 67.29 percent, followed by Banten at 58.89 percent and Yogyakarta at 58.51 percent.

“Higher occupancy was driven by increased domestic tourist mobility and accommodation demand during school holidays,” BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono said here Tuesday.

The national occupancy rate for star-rated hotels reached 54.55 percent in July, up 0.26 percentage points from June and 1.75 percentage points from a year earlier.

Other factors supporting hotel occupancy included local and international events held in North Sulawesi, West Java, Jakarta, Bali and Central Java, Hartono said.

The lowest occupancy rates were recorded in Highland Papua at 18.33 percent, Maluku at 27.18 percent and Aceh at 29.04 percent.

On a monthly basis, star-rated hotel occupancy rose 0.26 percentage points in July. West Nusa Tenggara posted the largest increase at 6.68 percentage points, followed by Papua at 5.94 and East Nusa Tenggara at 3.83.

Gorontalo recorded the sharpest decline, with occupancy falling 5.82 percentage points.

“Fourteen provinces recorded higher star-rated hotel occupancy rates in July 2026 than in June,” Ateng said.

Occupancy at non-star-rated hotels and other accommodations reached 27.25 percent in July 2026.

Bali recorded the highest rate in this category at 42.53 percent, followed by Jakarta at 42.21 percent and the Riau Islands at 39.79 percent. Highland Papua posted the lowest at 7.78 percent.

“Occupancy at star-rated hotels is generally higher than at non-star-rated hotels,” Ateng said.

Occupancy at non-star-rated hotels and other accommodations fell 0.34 percentage points in July from June, he said.

West Nusa Tenggara posted the largest increase at 3.90 percentage points, followed by Bali at 3.61 and the Riau Islands at 1.84. Gorontalo recorded the steepest decline at 4.76 percentage points, followed by Maluku at 3.34 and Banten at 2.81.
